Lyddie
Lyddie was an eleven year old Whippet x Italian greyhound mix that was surrendered to our local Animal Control by a woman who ran a day care. Apparently parents had complained that 'gentle' Lyddie was a threat to their children. I was called by the shelter manager and told to come get her so she wouldnt be euthanised and like a good soldier, I reported to the facility that very afternoon. Lyddie was a doll, quite one of the sweetest most laid back seniors I had ever met and she fitted in very nicely in my home, sleeping in a comfy chair by the side of my bed every night.
One day I got an email from Kelly Graham in Cleveland, Ohio. She had seen mention of Lyddie online and wanted to know if she could adopt her. Whoa Nellie - Cleveland !! That's a long way from Orlando, I thought. I didnt think Lyddie would stand to be carted all that way - she was an elderly lady after all. Over a period of a couple of weeks Kelly chipped away at my resolve - she had glowing references, a lot of people in the rescue community vouched for her, so finally I said yes. We were SO lucky, we found out a friend of hers was going to be making a trip south to Florida and with her help, Lyddie could make the bulk of the journey in one go. The night before the run was to start in earnest, I drove Lyddie to stay overnight at the home of Joan Schernekau (a HWT member) in Ocala and she in turn delivered Lyddie early the following morning to start her journey north. |

I was very relieved when she arrived safely at the other end - Kelly was delighted with her and I do think the bond between the two of them has grown stronger over the few months they have been together. |

| Recently a freak accident tore ligaments in Lyddie's knee but after some rather expensive surgery, Kelly expects this grand old lady to make a complete recovery and hopes she will be much loved for many years to come. VK | ||||
