Increasingly more often, the dogs and other animals we take into rescue are in need of more than just a simple spay/neuter and shots. Medical conditions requiring drugs and dips are all too frequent and those requiring surgery are increasing by leaps and bounds.
In order to really 'rescue' an animal, these things have to be part of what we are prepared to do. It doesnt help the little senior dog to be whisked out of the pound, de-flea'd, bathed and groomed, if he is in such agony from rotten teeth that he cannot eat. Nor does it help a puppymill brood bitch at all if the broken leg she has been forced to stand on for several years cannot be surgically mended or even amputated.
Medical costs are the highest they have ever been, even with some dedicated and caring veterinarians giving us a 'break'. One of the most significant common denominators among 'rescuers' is our poverty! Bills sometimes go unpaid, luxuries are a distant memory - all because an animal's need was greater than ours. We HAVE to find the money somewhere to pay for these neccessary medical procedures. They cannot be put off until next year, like a vacation or a new sofa. They are immediate and vital.
It may be that *you* cannot help Hero's Waggin Train transport an abandoned pet to the safety of a new home; *you* might not be in a positon to foster a bruised and scared puppy overnight. We understand - many among us cannot and they are valued just the same. What they and you CAN do is help us by raising a few dollars here and there that will make a HUGE difference to one of the animals we are trying so hard to help.
YOU can help take away their pain. There is no more significant gift that can be given to anyone, man or beast. To live without pain, feeling good and healthy again, maybe for the first time in years - is a gift without price. If you can contribute a dollar or two - or maybe even a little more, please write to me and I will send you the details of how you can help.
On a webpage next to the RAINBOW BRIDGE, your name will be inscribed on a brick "walkway" which is being specially designed by Brenda Rushman, the gifted artist who has crafted this whole site. If you prefer to remain anonymous, we understand, because sometimes gifts given from the heart do not need a reward. Our heartfelt thanks will go out to you nonetheless.
I expect someone, somewhere, might want to give you a small lick of gratitude as well :0)

Founder of Hero's Waggin Train
