| other traits: | Pug are extremely affectionate and will want to sleep with you at night and cuddle with you on the couch. They are not dogs who will sit quietly by while you go about your business, they want to be a part of your business. They are eager to please their owners and normally do well in obedience and even agility! But, they can be stubborn and do know how to train their people well to get what they want with those expressive eyes and cute little face. | |
| more kid-friendly info: | Pugs are wonderful with children and very resiliant. I really don't suggest any breed for children under 5 only becuase I think it is very hard for the children to understand not to pull ears and tail, or stick fingers in the dogs mouth, and you just never know what can happen. If the children have been raised with dogs, it is a possibilty. | |
| limiting disorders: | ||
| non-limiting disorders: | Eye problems as they age, sometimes knee problems (luxating patella), possible palete problems (elongated soft palete), and possible allergies. | |
| breed quirks: | Pugs shed HORRIBLY! 365 days a year!! Seriously, it is non stop and all over! They also snore, and grunt and sneeze on people. | |
| other info | Pugs were bred for companionship and that's all they desire. But, they want to be with you *all* the time. A young couple who works 8 - 10 hours a day and goes out to dinner every night, is not the ideal home for a pug. Nor is a home where the children want the pug to go outside and play with them or someone wants to take one hiking. Pugs do not tolerate heat well and can only be outside in the summertime for short periods. Pugs will do well in apartments as long as they are walked often. Young pugs, typically under 3 years of age are *extremely* hyper and require a lot of attention and interaction. Pugs are wonderful, social creatures, who normally love anyone and anything including other dogs or cats. They really are wonderful little pets. | |
